Welcome to Bugthorpe Under Fives

Welcome to our Pre-school for children aged 2 – 5 years. Bugthorpe Under Fives is a small, friendly group that works closely with parents to meet the needs of their children in a fun and nurturing environment.
The Pre-school was first set up in 1991 by a group of hard working parents who wished to fulfil the need for under five education in this rural community. The setting is still heavily supported by parents today as it is run by a parent led Committee who employ qualified, child orientated staff to ensure the children at Bugthorpe Under Fives feel safe, secure and happy. The Committee meet regularly and parents are kept informed of all events and details of fundraisers through the newsletter.

Bugthorpe Under Fives meets in the War Memorial Institute, Barf Lane, Bugthorpe. It is a pretty, rural setting that is surrounded by green fields and quiet roads with a village shop in easy walking distance.

The children are at the heart of Bugthorpe Under Fives. Staff firmly believe that a happy child is a happy learner. Children are learning all the time as they investigate, explore and enquire. Their developing skills are supported in a fun and engaging manner. First hand experiences are key as children learn by doing and playing. This is highlighted by our mission statement:

Bugthorpe Under Fives aims to create a child centred environment, creating stimulating and fun activities to encourage all children to reach their full potential irrespective of race, gender or ability by:
· Providing quality care and education within a safe and stimulating environment
· Meeting the child’s individual needs within a group setting
· Providing a full and varied / broad and balanced curriculum through a team of
experienced and qualified staff members in consultation with parents.
· Promoting a working partnership between the child’s parents / carers and the play
group
· Providing equal opportunities for all children and their families within the
community of the Play Group
