A Parent's Guide to the Early Years Foundation Stage
The EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) is the period of education from birth to five. It is a legal framework linking together four themes - A Unique Child, Positive Relationships, Enabling Environments and Learning and Development.Learning and Development is made up of six areas; 1) physical development, 2) creative development, 3) communication, language and literacy, 4) knowledge and understanding of the world, 5) personal, social and emotional development, 6) problem solving, reasoning and numeracy. Each area has equal importance at Bugthorpe Under Fives. Together they make up the skills, knowledge and experiences appropriate for children as they grow, learn and develop. Although these are viewed as separate areas, Bugthorpe Under Fives is fully aware that for children everything links and nothing is compartmentalised.
